Volunteer Support

There's a shortage of students entering the grain and feed industry but the hard part isn't getting students - it is keeping them. Because of this, we are asking members to invest time in the next generation of leaders who are enrolled in the Industry Immersion Program.

The Industry Immersion Program joins a student with an elevator manager during the school year and the student works for a total of 8 days. This is just enough time to provide an overview of the grain business and expose the student to a wide variety of work experiences. In turn, they receive a scholarship toward their college education.

If you choose to volunteer, you might find the process similar to job shadowing. The Association provides a planning guide and coordination assistance, but the program is very flexible and allows the participating manager and student to develop a schedule that best suits them. Visits to affiliated companies can also be arranged.

Many times the students work at elevators near their hometown; so by investing time in a student's education, you would also benefit your community and the Illinois grain and feed industry. To learn more, please contact Jodie at the Association office by calling 217.787.2417 or e-mail info@gfai.org.
