L.D. was a life long farmer, owner of Maplehurst Farms, who loved his family, traveling to Aruba and everywhere else by airplane, motorcycle, boat, RV, including bicycling through the U.S. and Europe. He loved volunteering for a multitude of people and organizations as well as spoiling all his grandchildren with chocolate milkshakes.
Also preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: Eleanor Carmichael, and Virginia Ravnaas, son: Thomas J. Carmichael on October 3, 1997; and a daughter: Jo Ann Franklin on September 14, 2004.
Survivors included his wife: Patricia Carmichael of Rochelle 2 sons: James (Renelle) Carmichael of Rochelle Paul (Mary Ann) Carmichael of Lindenwood daughter Carol (Roger) Hayenga of Kings daughter-in-law: Lyn Carmichael of Rochelle 13 grandchildren: Jen (Andy) Reis, Noah (Raegan) Carmichael, B.T. (Dani) Carmichael, Erin Carmichael, Brianne (John) Bradley, Sarah Carmichael, Kyle (Sarah) Franklin, Stacey (Steve) Hanf, Luke (Lishya) Carmichael, Daniel Carmichael, Grant Carmichael, Bethany and Jeffrey Hayenga 14 great grandchildren 2 step daughters: Kristine (Wayne) LeFever of Chester, VT Sally (Ben) Hess of Woodinville, WA 9 step grandchildren: Alex, Tayor, Christopher, Clayton, Clark, Camden, Caleb, Kelli, and Katie.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, December 18, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Calvin Rd., Rochelle with Rev. Chris Brauns and Rev. Dr. John Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1 PM - 5 PM and 6 - 8 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, and Friday from 9 AM to 9:45 AM prior to the funeral. The family requests memorials to the Rochelle Area Community Foundation, Stillman Valley Congregational Christian Church, or Ogle County Hospice.
