Elevators Needed to Invest Time in a Student Posted on 11/19/2009
If you can host an Industry Immersion Student, please e-mail jbrooks@gfai.org.
For the last 40 years the Grain and Feed Association of Illinois has offered college scholarships to encourage interest and foster growth in the grain and feed industry. To increase involvement, the Scholarship Committee is opening the Industry Immersion Program to Junior College students. However, in order to be able to award these scholarships to JC students, volunteers are needed to host just one student for 8 days.
The Industry Immersion Program is similar to job shadowing where the scholarship recipient will work at an elevator one day a month for 8 months during the school year. The goal of this program is to expose students to a variety of work experiences at the elevator and provide a support system so they feel encouraged to come back to work in the Illinois grain industry. In turn, they receive a scholarship toward their college education.
The Association will give each host elevator a guide with ideas on potential topics that can be covered, activity ideas and office functions that can be completed by the student. This program is flexible and can be tailored to suit the host and the student but the Association will provide as much assistance as requested.
If you are willing to invest some time in a student or would simply like to learn more about the program, please contact Jodie at the Association office at 217.787.2417 or jbrooks@gfai.org.
