Corn Dryer Fire in Assumption Slows an Already Sluggish Harvest Posted on 10/19/2009

Flames and smoke were created for several hours Thursday afternoon while the corn burned inside a 5,000 bushel-capacity corn dryer bin at the Assumption Cooperative Grain Company located at the northeast corner of Pana. At last report, no cause for the fire had been determined. Pana Fire Department was assisted by a number of area fire departments, including Tower Hill, Oconee and Shelbyville, which supplied an aerial ladder truck. No injuries were associated with the fire, although the Pana ambulance service was on scene as a precautionary measure.
