Educational Programs

These programs are offered to the members of the Grain and Feed Association of Illinois.  Employee training in the grain industry is a specialized and industry specific task that the Association has helped provide to its membership for a number of years.

Grain Accounting Schools
Grain Accounting is one of the most difficult record keeping programs to learn and understand. Different than most accounting due to the enormously different and complex farmer marketing programs that create huge differences to the inventory record keeping for the same product. The grain accounting schools teach the accountants and the grain merchandiser’s to work together and understand the principles that control grain accounting.

Grain Grading Schools
This school is organized to help employees at elevators and grain facilities across the state learn and understand how corn and soybeans are graded. An approved federal grain inspector instructs the schools. It is important that elevators grade grain the same as the inspection service to maximize the amount to be able to buy the grain for, and minimize the loss the elevators could incur from grading grain different from what the national standard is. Employees actually get hands-on training by picking through various sample and grades of corn and soybeans. The participants also spend time learn the causes of damage, where to look for different diseases in the varieties of grain grown in Illinois. They also get to learn the different smells of grain and how it affects the quality and rank of the grain.
