Government Affairs
Legislation and regulation can kill an industry or make it prosper. According to our membership, one of the top reasons people belong to the Grain & Feed Association of Illinois is adequate representation before legislative bodies and regulatory agencies. The cost for each company to do the work that the Association does in Springfield would be staggering. However, when we pool our resources and work together on common issues and common problems, we are able to achieve so much more.
The legislative and regulatory issues we deal with are complex. From the Grain Code to Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regulations to OSHA Grain Handling standards, we are involved in protecting the member's ability to run a competitive business in a highly competitive environment.
State legislation monitored by the Grain & Feed Association of Illinois includes:
- Grain Code
- Elevator Safety Act
- Feed Act
- Illinois Environmental Protection Act
- Other areas include, OSHA, safety, insurance, workers compensation and other pieces of legislation that affect businesses and operations of the industry
The Association also has a Political Action Committee that is funded by member contributions.
On a national level the Grain & Feed Association of Illinois has a working relationship with the National Grain & Feed Association and supports their efforts that are consistent with our members needs. The Association also participates in an annual "DC Fly In" where Association staff and members will travel to Washington, DC to meet with legislators and national agencies to voice concerns.
