About The Grain & Feed
Association of Illinois |
The Grain and Feed Association of Illinois is the statewide trade
association for the agri-business side of the grain and feed industry in
Illinois. The association is made up of 330 companies representing over
1,000 facilities in the state of Illinois and the neighboring states of
Wisconsin, Indiana, Missouri and Iowa. Over 92% of the commercial grain
storage space in the state of Illinois is represented by members of the
Association. In addition, there are over 200 associate members from across
the nation that supply goods and services to the industry.
Our members consists of country and terminal grain elevators, feed dealers,
feed manufacturers, grain brokers, truckers, and both corn and soybean
processors. Association members are companies that are the first purchaser
of grain when it leaves the farm, grain processors or companies that
manufacture feed and deliver it to livestock producers.
The Association traces its roots back to 1893 when the Illinois Grain
Dealers Association, a group of privately held companies, was started. Since
that time there have been three other associations that in 1971 merged
together to became the Grain and Feed Association of Illinois.

Since the grain and feed industry is highly regulated, much staff time is
spent working with various state and federal governmental regulatory
agencies, the Illinois General Assembly and the United States Congress.
Having a strong Association to represent and defend our members is paramount
to having a strong industry. In response to member’s need in the regulatory
area, the Association established the Safety•Health•Environmental Services
Program in 1989. This “user fee” based program has provided assistance to
members needing assistance in the areas of safety training and regulatory
compliance.
In addition to governmental and regulatory issues, the Association
provides important information to members, offers educational programs,
facilitates an annual convention & trade show, and has coordinated a
scholarship program for junior college and university students since 1963.
When asked what the Grain & Feed Association does, our response is that we
are involved in education, information and government relations for the
benefit of grain & feed industry.
